Unhappy DBK618 video problems with some software

I did not use my DBK 21AU618.AS for several months, but a few nights ago I decided to image Jupiter. I updated to the latest USB-driver (2.9.1) and IC Capture (2.4.642.2631). As always I captured in Y800 format. The resulting files seem to be "broken" somehow; they do not behave well in various software. I cannot open the files in Castrator that I use for cropping and centering the object. I am able to use Debayer.exe (from FireCapture) to debayer, but the resulting color video cannot be opened or crashes Registax, and cannot be opened in Castrator. The larger of two files from the night lacks the timecode after debayering. I also cannot use Firecapture anymore with this camera; the camera feed freezes shortly after connecting the camera.

    Here is an example file:

    PC:
    Windows 10, 64-bit, 8GB RAM

    Hello

    I downloaded your video. 2690 images, 640x480, 15 fps, Y800 encoded.

However, if FireCapture creates a colored video from this, it video produced from IC Capture is usable. Thus you also ask the Registrax and Castrator support too. I guess, they the colored video.

BTW: I though, Registax can debayer the video too?

Yes, Registax does debayer, but with worse result than e.g. Firecapture's Debayer. But I cannot open these files in Registax; I get this error message:
    "Extended AVI error
Failed to read number of frames"

Finally I was able to open and process the file in Autostakkert. But it would be nice to have the option to use Castrator or PIPP.

Further testing shows the problem happens even with old captured videos that used to work fine with the mentioned softwares. Rolling back the driver also did not help. So it seems the problem is neither the camera/drivers nor the softwares, but something on my laptop. Time to test with other laptop/OS.
I tried to change the title of my first post to sound less negative...
    Thanks,
    Jon

Well, I do not think, it is a hardware issue at all. I was able to load the AVI file in VLC without any problems.

AVI file writing is a software issue only. It has no relation to the used camera or its driver. It is IC Capture only, that writes the AVI, then the software you to process and save the new generated AVI files. I think, here is the problem. I do not think, your laptop is the problem.

I did not mean the laptop hardware, rather the OS (Windows 10) or something that has been installed. I used to be able to use all the mentioned softwares to process the captured files with no problems for several years, on this laptop and others.

Even Windows 10 should not be the problem, from my point of view.

Re: DBK618 produces broken videos after latest updates

I am experiencing similar problems. I believe it is a Windows 10 issue. Since their disastrous update botch from last year I have had nothing but problems when trying to processes images that normally would not be a problem, even after getting the update issue sorted.
