    UVC controls of DMK21AU04

    Hi,

I have two DMK21AU04 cameras. One reports 5 UVC controls: Brightness, Gamma, Gain, Exposure Auto, and Exposure Absolute. The other only reports the first three. Is it possible to update this last camera software so that it also reports all five?

    Thanks.

    Hi

I am very sorry, but this is not possible, because the firmware of these cameras did not changed for many many years now and the problem is not caused by the camera.

    Which software do you use?
Which driver is installed for both cameras
Which operating system do you use?

You may delete the camera from Windows Device Manager, dis- and reconnect and see, what happens.
    Best regards

I bought these cameras several years ago, the newest is probably from around 2010, the other is a few years older.

Both cameras work under Windows with IC Capture.

My aim is to use the cameras for guiding on a Linux computer with INDI and kstars with EKOS. For this I need to control the exposure length. The camera that reports the exposure controls works in this setup, but the other one doesn't.

I am using guvcview on kubuntu and debian to test which controls are available. For both cameras I am able to get a video stream with this tool. However, the exposure controls are missing for one of them (probably the older one?).

    Hello

you can use v4l2-ctrl (package v4l-utils) in order to get a full list of the camera properties. Also you might let me know the serial numbers of the cameras.

However, there is no reason, why the cameras should behave different.

    Hi Stefan,

    I've checked with 'v4l2-ctl -all'.
The older camera has serial number 21800029 and the tool reports the following:

    Driver Info (not using libv4l2):
    Driver name : uvcvideo
    Card type : DMx 21AU04.AS
    Bus info : usb-0000:00:1d.7-5.4

    gamma (int) : min=1 max=500 step=1 default=100 value=100
    gain (int) : min=260 max=1023 step=1 default=260 value=260

The newer camera has serial number 40010324 and the tool outputs:

    Driver Info (not using libv4l2):
    Driver name : uvcvideo
    Card type : DMx 21AU04.AS

    gain (int) : min=260 max=1023 step=1 default=260 value=260
    exposure_auto (menu) : min=0 max=3 default=3 value=3
    exposure_absolute (int) : min=1 max=36000000 step=1 default=333 value=333 flags=inactive

Besides the fact that also here the old camera seems to have no 'exposure auto' and 'exposure absolute', I see that under 'Video Input:' the old camera shows 'Input 4: ok' while the newer one shows 'Camera 1: ok'.

    Best regards,
    Camiel

    Hello Camiel

I must admit, I did not expect the 8 years old camera not showing exposure in Linux. So what do you expect me to do now?

    Re: UVC controls of DMK21AU04

    Hi Stefan,

Since the newer camera works fine, my guess is that the firmware was updated. Therefore, I'm wondering whether it is possible to upgrade the firmware of the older camera?

    Regards,
    Camiel

Maybe that can be done. Maybe a newer firmware will damage your camera. You may create a request at http://www.theimagingsource.com/en_US/company/contact/

I will try to handle that later this day.
    Best regards
