I use Firei.exe, version 2.0.0.69 and I can get images from a SONY XCD-X700.
Here is my system setup:

on Windows 200:
IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
Texas Instruments OCHI Compliant Ieee 1394 Controler
Driver Provider Micrososft
Driver Version : 5.0.2183.1
Imaging Devices
Unibrain fire-i driver/SONY XCD
Driver Provider Unibrain
Driver Version 2.0.0.386

The problem is that sometime if I start/stop the Firei.exe, it will pop up with
an eror mesage:80070001 ( Device not vailable)

I found that soemtimes the Firei.exe remains resident in memory ( via the task manager) . I am pretty sure one of the componets involved does not relese a
reference on the camera. I tried with pview but I don't see any "familiar" name.

If I get that error, it does not go away untill I restart the computer.
Again, I am simply usign the Firei.exe and not a software develop by myself.
I would like to need the fix - is any of the drivers being corrupted?

All my best,
Sanda

Hello,

The driver and the application you are using is developed and distributed by UNIBRAIN. What does the UNIBRAIN support say about your problem ?

Here is my suggestion: You could try the WDM compliant DCAM driver for Sony DCAM cameras from our web site in conjunction with our powerful SDK IC Imaging Control. You can download the driver and a trial version of IC Imaging Control for free:

driver:
http://www.1394imaging.com/products/cameras/xcdx700/sonywdm_dr.zip

IC Imaging Control Trial Version:
