Hi Guys,

Using a DMK 51AG02.AS in windows 8

Capturing working fine but the resolution is weird.

ICCapture 2.2 says capturing at 1600x1200 (only resolution it offers) but right clicking in explorer shows the resolution as 720x480 - same resolution shows up in registax also.

Any ideas ?

Hi Chris,

I suppose, you right click on AVI files in explorer. The 720x480 resolution points me to the DV Encoder codec used for AVI capture. This codec resizes the video format. PLease do not use it. Use uncompressed Y800 instead.

You may look at:

Thanks so much - have changed it now. Shame it defaults to this rather than full resolution - I wonder if anyone would want to run the camera at a lower compressed resolution for astronomy ?

The is is caused by the alphabetical order of codec installed by default in Windows. I am aware, this is confusing. I wrote a nice program "ICY800Capture", which can be downloaded from the forum at http://www.theimagingsourceforums.com/showthread.php?323863-We-Need-a-Crosshair-for-IC-Capture&highlight=icy800capture. This program does not allow to use other codecs than uncompressed Y800 at all.
