View Full Version : DBK 41AU02.AS - recording in colour

Just purchased the DBK 41AU02.AS - not too sure what CODEC / file type settings I should be using to record colour AVI. When recording AVIs, only seem to be able to record in B&W. Any assistance much appreciated.

Thus depends on the video format you use in the camera. If you use Y800, then you will get a grayscale image. You may use BY8 or YUY2 instead.

Codec should not be Y800, because this causes IC Capture to change the colors to nice grayscale.

What Stefan has said is correct, but perhaps not entirely complete.

If you capture in Y800, and Y800 as the codec, you will capture a greyscale image, but there is still color information that can be recovered in the process of "debayering." For example, Registax, will do this if you give it the correct instructions. So will K3CCDTools3, and there are other ways.

The advantage of capturing in Y800 is that you are able to capture a larger number of frames compared to YUY2 or BY8. For planetary captures this is important because you want the most frames possible in the shortest time! You may check the color just before capturing by enabling color. From memory I think it is in the drop down menu under "view." If you leave this on whilst capturing you will get a gray scale image that cannot be debayered. You MUST turn off the color before you capture.
