exposure timing

I'm using a firewire DMK 31BF03 and labview software to control the camera. Our application requires a high dynamic range in the images. Our approach is to progressively increase the exposure time for each frame, then scale and add the frames together. This works well, but our problem is that the frame rate goes down from 15 fps to 5 fps when we do this. Is there any way to solve this, up to and including changing the camera hardware?

If the exposure time is longer than the frame rates duration between to frames, then the camera slows extremely down. You shut limit the maximum exposure time to 0.0667 seconds (1/15 second) to avoid this.
