how to set exposure by means of coding

hi this is shankar
i need to set exposure of camera as "1/256" up to know i
do this process by ic capture , is it possible to do the same process by using any codes in vc++,so i could set this value by program itself,kindly reply as soon as possible because it is really urgent.
