Hello,

I recently purchased a DMK 21AU04.AS and have a couple of questions regarding camera settings. The first one is related to the gamma settings in this version of IC Capture which range from 1 - 500. It appears that this range different than previous versions of IC Capture which had a range of 0 - 20. If someone could explain this to me I would appreciate it. I took a few streams last night of mars when the gamma was at 100 and the gain in the low 700s (red channel) and the results look pretty good given the seeing conditions. So I'm assuming that a gamma setting of 100 is quite low as the surface features weren't washed out in the results, something that I noticed when using gamma with a toucam.

Secondly it appears that the settings specified in the camera control toolbars (view -> toolbars) are ignored when capturing a sequence. This had me scratching my head until I realized that the settings from the device properties panel were overriding the values that I had set in the toolbar equivilent, ie exposure and fps sliders. Just wanted to mention this for any other new DMK AU owners out there. The documentation is out of date too as some of the dialogs in the docs aren't visually or functionally the same as the dialogs in the application.

So far I like the camera very much but there is a lot of learning to do before I can become proficient with it.

Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,

the Gamma values for the USB differ to the FireWire camera, because the UVC (USB Video Capture) specification determines these values.

We will have a look on this.

Ok great. Could you tell me what setting would give a linear response? I guess I should go and look at the spec you reference below. But if you know off hand please replay.

thanks,
Sean

I found the spec, 100 is gamma=1. Most of the folks I talk with imaging Mars are using a gamma setting of 0 with their firewire cameras. What is the equivalent of 0 for the USB cameras? The scales don't seem to match as I read that 10 is gamma 1 and the settings range from 0 - 20.
