View Full Version : Trouble with the Browser Component

For some weeks we are trying to make a working application using the Browser Component. But most of the time it does not work correctly.
When we run the 'Browser-based TX Text Control .NET Server Live Demonstration' called 'Document Explorer', it works all the time.
When we build the application from the help file called 'Creating a Browser Based ASP.NET Application with Visual Studio 2005' and install it unto a production server (http://www.kmo.nl/browserwebsite), the results are different. If TxTextcontrol is not installed on the client we got error messages in Internet Explorer about not finding the right DLL. If TxTextcontrol is installed on the client, most of the time we got an Internet Explorer error telling us that the input stream is not a valid binary format.
What settings have you applied to your server which are not documented in the help file?

Hello Roel
Thanks for your request.
May I ask for the first binary characters of your error message?

Translated to ASCII it is:
System.Runtime.Re
Hope this tells you enough.

Hello Roel
Thanks. Do you use a combination of .NET 1.1 or 2.0 on server-side and/or 1.1 or 2.0 on client-side?

Yes, that's right. On our server we are hosting .NET 1.1 and 2.0 applications. For the mentioned test-application we have selected .Net Framework 2.0.
Is the mix of .NET 1.1 and 2.0 applications on the same server a problem?
Also on the client are .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 installed...

In this case, a Microsoft hotfix should be installed:
If the server or the client machine is running the .NET Framework version 1.1, it is strongly recommended to install the hotfix NDP1.1sp1-KB911205-X86.exe. Please refer to the Microsoft knowledge base to learn more about this hotfix:

I'm sorry to inform you that this doesn't solve the problem...
I wasn't even able to install the patch because Windows Installer told me: 'The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the WIndows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch'.
Seems like this patch is outdated.
Any other ideas to solve the problem?

Roel,
Do you have the most recent Windows Installer and the .NET 1.1 SP1 installed?

I'm pretty sure we have the most recent versions installed. I've even managed to extract the dll's from the hotfix NDP1.1sp1-KB911205-X86.exe and compared them to the versions on our server: They are the same. My conclusion is that we have already installed the hotfix.
It seems that the hotfix does not solve our problem.
So, what can we do next to solve the problem?

Hello Roel
Thanks for your feedback.
Please contact me directly to discuss the details. Maybe I can review your server settings in a remote desktop session.

Hallo Srini,
Sorry, but we have stopped this project because we could not get it working. Maybe we'll pick it up in the future...

Srini or Roel?
Did anyone find a solution to this problem. I'm having exactly the same troubles over here. Though I'm a beginner with .Net Server, I'm a very satisfied customer of the regular components for over 5 years now.
For the record, I installed earlier mentioned solutions and it still doesn't work. The difference is, that it takes a bit longer until the message displays.
I'm using Vista Home Premium, Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite and TX 13 .Net server.
Thx,
Harold
