using external power?

Hello, I want to ask a question about the power supply of your fireware grabber. For some reason, we don't want the grabber using the power provided from serial bus of the desktop. Instead, use an external DC power like we usually do when the grabber is plugged to a laptop. So if I give the grabber the external power, which power source does it use? Is it safe to cut off the power pins inside the 6-pin cable?

if an external power supply is connected, then it seems that the external power supply is used to power the DFG/1394-1 even if a 6 pin FireWire cable is in use.
