Cameras not recognized by windows XP

Hi,
I'm having a strange problem. A Dell latitude laptop with windows XP does not detect a Sony DFW-X700 camera. The camera works everywhere else and on another Dell laptop that is as far as I'm concerned identical (hardware/software). Furthermore a camera by a different manufacturer and an external DVD burner connect and work fine, so I believe I can rule out the firewire port as being broken. Also I believe I can rule out the cables and hubs. As a result I can't install the WDM Stream class drivers (no cameras are found).

Do you have any experience with something like this happening?

Hello,

First of all, please check, whether the SONY DFW-X700 camera is listed in the Device Manager. May be it is named as “Generic 1394 desktop camera”. If you can find the camera, the hardware is detected correctly. If not, there is a problem with your laptop. May be there are some differences in the driver versions. Please ask the DELL support for a solution.

No, the hardware isn't detected at all, not even 'generic'. Thanks for your reply. I'll what dell may say.
