We've been seeing a text control error ever since Daylight Savings Time kicked in this past weekend. This is happening on PCs that are running on Windows NT, with a MHz <= 533
The error is:

Error: 30102
Description: The designated text area is too small for the new format settings. - in: Tx4ole

This is causing havoc among our entire user community. We need help as soon as possible. It looks like someone else posted a similar error on the 29th.

In their case, the problem is on Win98, but we don't have any PCs on that version of Windows.

We are using V9.

Just off the cuff, but it could well be the fonts files have become corrupted. I'd look to replace the fonts used with new copies. (Both font files and printer drivers seem to be fairly sensitive to corruption.)

I think it's just coincidental with the date issue, and not related.

It seems unlikely that fonts would become corrupted on 30 PCs simultaneously. All with the same OS, all with <= 533 MHz, and the rest of the user population (approx 4,000) on NT and Win2K with > 533 MHz not sharing the problem.

We never allow the user to use a font size smaller than 8, nor bigger than 24, and lock down the fonts to a conservative 8 standard ones.

This application allows doctors to write medical notes on patients and the problem is happening mostly on public workstations where many clinicians have access to the same PC. It happens when we are initializing the text control's page width or height to the number of twips that = normal 8.5 X 11 page size. We initialze the font size to 10, font name to Courier New, and set the zoom factor to 100. We do not save notes to the PCs hard disk, but to a server.

Is the text control using the system date/time as a seed anywhere? These PCs use FAT file system rather than NTFS; could that have anything to do with it?

We ended up uninstalling our application and then reinstalling it, and that fixed the problem, although we still don't know what caused the problem to begin with.
